Jaecoo is growing its lineup after the successful launch of the J7 and its SHS plug-in hybrid version. Now, it is introducing the new J5 SUV, which is a smaller and more affordable option – and very attractively priced.

The J5 is offered in three specification grades: Vortex, Glacier and Inferno. Power is derived from a turbo-charged 1,5-litre petrol engine, producing 115 kW and 230 Nm of torque. This is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), delivering a balance of respectable performance and a claimed fuel consumption figure of 7,5 l/100 km. The chassis employs a multilink rear suspension and disc brakes on all four wheels for confident handling.

Visually, the J5 features the brand’s signature bold grille and high-mounted headlights. The design is clean and modern, with squared-off wheel arches and a full-width rear light bar. The Vortex and Glacier models ride on 17-inch wheels, while the range-topping Inferno is equipped with 18-inch alloys.

A wheelbase of 2 620 mm contributes to a spacious interior, offering 480 litres of boot capacity, which can be expanded to 1 284 litres with the 60:40 split rear seats folded flat. Standard features across the range include automatic climate control, a 13,2-inch infotainment display, and an eight-inch digital instrument cluster. The Glacier trim adds leather upholstery and a power-adjustable driver’s seat, with the Inferno further enhancing the package with features such as dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, and ventilated front seats.

Safety provision is comprehensive, with all models featuring anti-lock brakes, electronic stability programme, hill descent control, and dual front crash bags. The Glacier and Inferno models are equipped with additional side curtain bags.
