It is going to be a busy 2025 with several new models and derivatives being added to the Omoda and Jaecoo stables. Since making their debut in South Africa in 2023, the Omoda and Jaecoo brands — operating under the Chery Group’s O&J division — have gained traction with a lineup that began with the Omoda C5 and has since expanded to include the J7 and the recently launched C9.

Hans Greyling, General Manager for Omoda & Jaecoo South Africa, outlined the strategy: “The upcoming Omoda and Jaecoo models demonstrate our dedication to meeting South African consumers’ varied needs. From plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) to fully electric vehicles (EVs), alongside our core petrol offerings, we aim to cater to every lifestyle — whether it’s about sustainability, luxury, or performance.”

C7: The Middle Ground with a Premium Edge

Arriving in 2025, the Omoda C7 will slot between the C5 and C9, offering a balance of design and advanced features. The SUV’s standout X-shaped grille and sleek, frameless styling, combined with sharp headlights, ensure it makes a strong visual impression.

Measuring 4 621 mm in length with a 2 700 mm wheelbase, the C7 provides ample interior space while remaining nimble in city driving. Inside it has leather upholstery, a 15,6-inch touchscreen and a 14-speaker sound system.

C9 PHEV: Electrification Begins

The Omoda C9, launched in October, will soon gain a plug-in hybrid variant. The C9 PHEV pairs a 1,5-litre engine with electric assistance, offering a sustainable driving option without sacrificing luxury or performance. While South African specifications are yet to be finalised, the model promises to combine efficiency and refinement, marking Omoda’s first step into electrification in the region.

J5: Compact Versatility

The all-new Jaecoo J5, set to launch below the J7, will be the brand’s entry into the competitive compact SUV segment. Sporting a rugged design with vertical grille slats and a squared-off aesthetic, the J5 offers a striking mix of sophistication and adventure-readiness.

Inside, the J5 has a 13,2-inch touchscreen and the largest panoramic glass roof in its class. Additional features such as smart climate control, an advanced air filtration system and pet-friendly options make it a family-friendly choice.

J6: Electrifying Adventures

Marking Jaecoo’s move into the EV market is the fully electric J6. This crossover, designed for light off-roading, comes in two powertrain options overseas: a 2WD version with 184 kW of power and a 4WD variant offering 279 kW.

The J6 also boasts luxury features such as adjustable front seats with a massage function and a 15,6-inch touchscreen. Final specifications for South Africa will be revealed closer to its release.

J7 PHEV: Efficient and Versatile

A plug-in hybrid version of the popular J7 is also on the horizon. Early tests suggest impressive efficiency, with a combined fuel consumption as low as 3,3 l/100 km and an all-electric range exceeding 90 km.

Internationally, the J8 comes with a 2,0-litre turb-ocharged engine delivering 195 kW, with a PHEV version also available in other markets. South African availability for the hybrid variant is yet to be confirmed.
