Gauteng motoring enthusiasts can mark their calendars for the 13th Classic Car Show, scheduled for Sunday, July 6, 2025, at the Nasrec Expo Centre, located south-west of the Johannesburg CBD. Public access begins at 09:00.
Tickets are currently available via Computicket, priced at R100 for adults and R40 for children under 12 years old. Organisers advise advance booking, though cash entry will be possible at the gate for R120 (adults) and R50 (children under 12). The event aims to maintain its reputation as an affordable family outing.

Event organiser Paulo Calisto provided specific route guidance to ease congestion. "Both classic car owners and spectators travelling from the west are advised to skirt around the Johannesburg CBD en route to Nasrec," Calisto recommended. He added that those arriving via the N1 highway can avoid anticipated queues near Gate 2 (often used by "young-timer" German and Japanese classics) by staying in the right-hand lane. "Turn left at the second traffic light on Rand Show Road," Calisto instructed, "this leads directly to Gates 5 and 7."
This routing is considered important for owners of older classics. "These vehicles weren't designed for long periods in stationary traffic and lack modern cooling systems," Calisto explained. Drivers of verified classic and special collectable cars, plus one passenger, gain free entry through Gate 7 from 08:00. Spectator parking is designated within walking distance of Gate 5, opening at 09:00.
The show, initiated by Calisto in 2012 with a modest gathering at a southern Johannesburg restaurant, has become a significant fixture. Its growth was notable from the outset, attracting far more vehicles than initially anticipated. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, making this the 13th edition rather than the 14th.

Reflecting the demographics of Johannesburg's southern and eastern suburbs (including areas like Germiston, Boksburg, Benoni, and Brakpan) and the western reef centres (such as Roodepoort and Krugersdorp), the show consistently presents a diverse mix of vehicles. Attendees can expect American classics spanning from the late 1950s muscle car origins – including original-specification Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, and Buicks – through to iconic Tri-Chevy models (1955-1957), 1970s muscle cars like Mustangs, and large Cadillacs.
European marques add further variety, featuring models such as Ford Taunuses, Opel Mantas, various DKWs, alongside familiar classics like Anglias, Minis, and Volkswagens, including split-window Kombis and oval-window Beetles.
"The idea for the show back in 2012 changed my life," said Calisto, a long-time southern suburbs resident. His own passion grew through attending events, leading to a personal collection of 14 classics, including 1950s/60s Chevy pick-ups and 1960s VW Kombis.

Calisto also addressed owner concerns: "Enhanced security measures will be in place this year to protect vehicles on display, specifically to prevent unwanted touching of paintwork and chrome details."
Beyond the static displays, the event offers family entertainment including drifting demonstrations, helicopter rides, jumping castles, and a selection of food and drink provided by vendors from the Johannesburg South area.
