A significant moment for motoring enthusiasts has arrived as the factory-built right-hand drive Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is now available in South Africa. Distributed locally by CVH Auto Group, the mid-engined sports car marks a new chapter for the iconic nameplate locally.
The Corvette Stingray features a naturally aspirated V8 engine producing 369 kW. This power enables a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 3,5 seconds. Its design incorporates aggressive aerodynamics. Every model includes the Z51 Performance Package as standard, enhancing its capabilities for both road and track use.
South African buyers can choose between the coupé and convertible Stingray body styles. Pricing for the Stingray begins at R3 700 000. Showroom viewings are currently open at CVH Auto Group in Bryanston.

Future Arrival: The High-Performance Corvette ZR1
Alongside the Stingray, Chevrolet has confirmed the upcoming arrival of the more potent Corvette ZR1 in South Africa. This model features an extensively re-engineered 5,5-litre LT7 twin turbo-charged V8 engine. Derived from the naturally aspirated LT6 engine architecture, known internally as ‘Gemini’, the LT7 is purpose-built for forced induction. Engineers modified virtually every system, including unique cylinder head castings, valve train profiles, a new intake system, and integrated mono-scroll turbochargers for swift response. This results in power exceeding 740 kW.
Supporting this significant output, the ZR1's eight-speed dual-clutch transmission has been upgraded with stronger input shafts, shot-peened gears for increased capacity, refined final drive components, enhanced oil management, and higher clutch clamp load control.
The ZR1's aerodynamics generate substantial downforce. It features a flow-through hood for cooling and front downforce, carbon fibre side brake cooling ducts integrated into the wishbone bezels, and unique rear hatch air intakes to cool turbocharged air. An optional ZTK Performance Package adds a prominent carbon fibre rear wing, front dive planes, a tall hood Gurney lip, underbody strakes, stiffer springs, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres for enhanced track performance. Carbon Aero components from the ZTK package are also available separately.
For stopping power, the ZR1 employs a new brake system with revolutionary carbon ceramic rotor technology. Front rotors measure 400 mm in diameter, the largest ever fitted to a production Corvette, with 390 mm rotors at the rear.
A notable design element is the return of the split rear window, last seen on the C2-generation Corvette. This carbon fibre spine between the rear windows not only evokes Corvette heritage but also aids in extracting heat from the engine compartment.
Executive Design Director Phil Zak stated: “ZR1 felt like the right time to bring the split-window back. We integrated passionate design in a way that paid homage to Corvette’s history while serving a functional purpose.”
