iCAUR, the new energy vehicle brand from Chery Group, has formally announced its entry into the South African market. The brand confirmed its first models will launch locally in the first quarter of 2026, following its initial showcase at the 2025 Festival of Motoring. This move introduces a new competitor into South Africa's expanding new energy vehicle segment.
Established in 2023, iCAUR aims to redefine the connection between drivers and their vehicles through clean energy technology, distinctive design, and a lifestyle-oriented approach. The brand enters South Africa with the stated goal of supporting the shift towards smarter, greener transport while offering fresh options for local motorists.

“As the world embraces a new era of clean mobility, South African motorists deserve access to electrified vehicles that are as expressive as they are intelligent,” says Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for iCAUR South Africa. “iCAUR brings a new energy to the market, combining striking design with advanced EV technology and a playful, user-centric spirit. We’re here to make electric motoring more personal, more joyful and, importantly, more accessible.”
Backed by Chery Group's engineering resources, iCAUR is launching with specific models confirmed for local introduction. The initial range will feature the iCAR 03, a fully electric SUV. Publicly available specifications indicate the iCAR 03 measures 4 406 mm long, 1 910 mm wide, and 1 715 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2 715 mm. It utilises a single electric motor producing 184 kW, powered by a lithium ferrous phosphate (LFP) battery. Claimed range under the CLTC testing cycle is up to 501 km, with fast charging capability enabling a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 0,36 hours (around 22 minutes).

Beyond the iCAR 03, iCAUR has signalled future expansion. The brand showcased the iCAR V23 concept at the Beijing Motor Show, previewing a potential compact electric bakkie. Published concept details suggest dimensions of 4 220 mm (length), 1 915 mm (width), 1 845 mm (height), and a wheelbase of 2 730 mm. Concept specifications included a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a choice between 400 km or 500 km range batteries (specific cycle unconfirmed).
iCAUR's approach emphasises category innovation, playful co-creation inviting user input, emotional design blending retro-futuristic aesthetics, and building a lifestyle ecosystem extending beyond the car itself.
Locally, iCAUR South Africa is finalising its retail strategy. The brand plans to open its first dealerships in key metropolitan areas, aiming for a network of approximately 15 outlets by the official launch in Q1 2026. Further model introductions and local lifestyle partnerships are expected as the brand establishes its presence.
“South Africa is a country with a rich outdoor lifestyle, vibrant urban culture, and an increasingly energy-conscious mindset,” Gahagan added. “These are the communities iCAUR is built for.” The arrival of these specified models marks a significant step in iCAUR's global expansion and its debut on the African continent.
