Ford South Africa has unveiled a new Sport variant of its Transit Custom van, broadening the appeal of a model already recognised for its practicality and innovation. The Sport edition introduces design enhancements and dynamic features aimed at business operators and lifestyle-focused drivers seeking a vehicle that combines functionality with a distinctive aesthetic.
Exclusively available in a short wheelbase format, the Transit Custom Sport diverges from its long-wheelbase counterparts with bold exterior elements. These include a honeycomb grille, rear spoiler, and 17-inch matte black alloy wheels. Dual racing stripes stretch from the front bumper to the rear doors, complemented by sport-themed decals along the sides. Advanced LED headlights with automatic high beam control and signature daytime running lights further define its modern appearance.

Inside, the cabin features sport-trimmed seats with blue accent stripes, a 13-inch touchscreen running Ford’s SYNC4 system, and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Heated front seats with adjustable lumbar support aim to enhance comfort, while multiple USB ports and a configurable steering wheel—designed to double as a laptop stand or table—cater to on-the-go productivity.
The Sport model retains the Transit Custom’s practical strengths, including a load capacity of 5,8 m³ and a payload of up to 1 023 kg. A lower floor height and sub-two-metre vehicle profile improve access in restricted areas. Storage solutions, such as a dashboard compartment for A4 files and under-seat stowage, are tailored for business use. An optional tilting steering wheel, available later this year, will add workspace flexibility.
Power comes from a 2,0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, generating 125 kW and 390 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drivers can select from multiple drive modes, including a Sport option for responsive handling. The van also features a 55-litre fuel tank and a 20-litre AdBlue reservoir to meet emissions standards.

Standard safety technologies include pre-collision assist, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keeping aid. Six crash bags, front and rear parking sensors, and a 180-degree rear camera enhance protection. Remote access via the FordPass app allows users to lock, unlock, or locate the vehicle digitally.
Priced at R938,000, the Transit Custom Sport includes a six-year service plan, four-year warranty, and roadside assistance. Extended warranty and maintenance plans are available, with service intervals set at 15 000 km or annually.
Sunil Sewmohan, Ford South Africa’s Executive Director for Product Marketing, noted, “The Sport variant offers a fresh proposition for customers wanting a van that reflects their individuality without compromising on capability.”
