GWM South Africa has officially rolled out its significantly upgraded Haval H6 SUV line-up, injecting new energy into the local market with sharper design, enhanced powerplants and a strong focus on intelligent technology, including hybrid variants.
The new H6 arrives with a noticeably refined exterior, upgraded cabin tech and a choice of drivetrains designed to blend comfort, capability, and contemporary style for South African families and individuals. Marking nearly two decades in South Africa, GWM draws on extensive international experience, with over 14,9-million vehicles sold globally across more than 170 countries. This global scale informs vehicles adapted specifically for local conditions.

Visually, the new H6 makes a statement. It features a bold front grille, sleek LED taillights and sculpted body lines that maintain their appeal whether parked or moving. New 19-inch alloy wheels and detailing contribute to a premium feel. Inside, drivers and passengers are greeted by a luxurious cabin design featuring leather-accented seating. Signature elements like the front grille and upgraded LED lighting enhance both aesthetics and functionality.
Notably the rear light cluster is now split and carries the GWM at the back to emphasise the ‘family’ that not only includes Haval but has P-Series, Ora and Tank as part of it.

The H6 offers two distinct powertrains:
- 2,0L Turbo Petrol: Generating 170 kW and 380 Nm, this engine pairs with a 9-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) for responsive performance and smooth gear changes.
- H6 HEV Hybrid: This advanced model combines a 1,5-litre turbo engine with an electric motor, delivering 179 kW and a substantial 530 Nm of torque. GWM's intelligent DHT multi-mode system prioritises fuel efficiency without sacrificing power. Drivers can select modes including Standard, Sport, Eco, Sand, and Snow, aided by Intelligent 4WD Torque Distribution for adaptability.
"This H6 caters to drivers seeking greater control, enhanced capability, and increased confidence from their SUV," Ramabulana added.
The H6 focuses on keeping drivers informed and in control. A prominent 14,6-inch multi-point touchscreen integrates seamlessly with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Key driving data is clearly displayed on a 10,25-inch digital instrument cluster. Further enhancing the experience are voice command functionality, a head-up display, and wireless charging. Practical touches include Auto Parking Assist and a heated leather steering wheel.
Comfort is bolstered by a 6-way electric adjustable driver’s seat, a premium 9-speaker Amor Audio system, and a hands-free boot lid.

True to GWM's ethos, the new H6 incorporates a comprehensive suite of Intelligent Driver Assistance Systems. These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Alongside the core H6 models, GWM unveiled the dynamic new Haval H6 GT Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). This coupé-inspired SUV promises exhilarating performance combined with hybrid practicality.
The H6 GT PHEV boasts a combined output of 321 kW and 762 Nm of torque, enabling a brisk 0–100 km/h sprint in 4,9 seconds. Crucially, underpinned by GWM's hybrid architecture, it offers an impressive driving range of up to 1 000 km on a single charge and fuel tank combined. Its electric-only range reaches up to 180 km.
The GT PHEV commands attention with its bold grille, striking headlamp design, muscular stance, and sporty silhouette. Inside, bolstered sport seats (heated and ventilated at the front) and dual-zone climate control enhance comfort. A 12,3-inch touchscreen infotainment system sits centrally, complemented by wireless charging and a customisable digital instrument cluster. An intuitive voice command system (activated by ‘Hello GWM’) controls various functions.
