Hyundai South Africa has introduced the seven-seater Alcazar to its SUV range, positioning it alongside the Creta while catering to families seeking extra space. Designed with practicality in mind, the Alcazar features three rows of seating, including a raised third row equipped with air vents and charging points, ensuring comfort across all six passenger seats.

Slotting between the compact Creta and the premium Tucson, the Alcazar offers a budget-friendly alternative without compromising on modern comforts.

Gideon Janse van Rensburg, outgoing CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, emphasised the brand’s strategy: “The Alcazar reflects our focus on delivering value without cutting corners. Following the Exter’s launch and Tucson’s upgrades, we’ve prioritised affordability while enhancing features.”

Contrary to being a mere replacement for the Grand Creta, the Alcazar introduces refreshed styling and a lower starting price. Stanley Anderson, Sales and Operations Director and soon to become CEO noted: “This isn’t just a new model — it’s a reimagined experience.”

Distinctive design elements include H-style LED daytime running lights linked by a central light bar, a bold grille, and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Anderson also highlighted subtle touches like silver-tone accents, widened fenders with dark inserts, and rear LED lighting that echoes the front profile.

Buyers can opt between a 2,0-litre petrol engine or a fuel-efficient 1,5-litre turbo-diesel, both paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The Drive Mode Selector adapts to driving conditions, offering Eco for efficiency, Sport for responsiveness, and terrain-specific settings (Snow, Mud, Sand) for challenging surfaces.

The Alcazar’s cabin prioritises flexibility, with flat-folding rear rows for cargo space and second-row fold-out tables in the Elite trim. All passengers benefit from USB ports, while the driver enjoys a dual-screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and physical controls for ease of use.

Standard safety features include six crash bags, ISOFIX anchors and electronic stability control. The Elite variant adds advanced aids like Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Priced from R499 900, the Alcazar undercuts its predecessor, making seven-seat ownership more accessible. Each purchase includes Hyundai’s 7-year/200?000 km warranty and a 3-year/45?000 km service plan.

With its blend of space, style, and value, the Alcazar aims to become a staple for South African families navigating both city streets and weekend adventures.
