Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced the upcoming launch of its new-generation Transporter, set for release in the second half of 2025. The latest model offers increased space, improved payload capacity, and enhanced technology, making it a more practical option for a variety of commercial needs.

At launch, the Transporter will be available as a panel van with a long wheelbase, offering two engine options: a 2,0-litre TDI with 81 kW paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, or a 110 kW version with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Volkswagen has expanded the standard equipment list on the new Transporter, making it one of the most well-equipped vans in its class. Features now included as standard are:

  • LED headlights with Light Assist
  • 12-inch Digital Cockpit
  • 13-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • Multifunction steering wheel and Keyless Start
  • Lane Assist and Front Assist with automatic emergency braking

An electronic parking brake with Auto Hold has also been introduced, freeing up cabin space for easier access to the rear. The automatic versions feature a steering column-mounted gear selector, while the manual models retain the centre-console gear lever.

The new Transporter is larger than its predecessor, the T6.1, offering greater load capacity and towing strength. The long-wheelbase panel van now boasts a load volume of 6,8 cu/m, accommodating three Euro pallets with ease. The payload capacity has increased to 1,33 tonnes, while the maximum towing weight is now up to 2.8 tonnes, depending on the model.

The overall length of the new Transporter has grown, with the short-wheelbase version measuring 5 050 mm, while the long-wheelbase option extends to 5,450 mm. The load compartment width between the wheel arches has also increased to 1 392 mm, providing greater flexibility for transporting goods.

The exterior design retains familiar elements from previous Transporter generations while adopting a sleeker, more contemporary look. The front grille and LED headlights reference earlier models but have been refined for a more cohesive appearance. Redesigned 16-inch, 17-inch and 19-inch alloy wheels further enhance the vehicle’s profile.

The new Transporter range will include panel van, crew bus, Kombi, and dropside double cab versions, with the first three arriving in 2025. The dropside double cab variant will follow in 2026.

Volkswagen Crafter

In addition to the Transporter, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is preparing to launch the new Crafter in the first half of 2025. The Crafter will feature an upgraded interior with digital instruments, a 10.3-inch infotainment display, and a new graphical interface.

Standard equipment has been enhanced to include a multifunction steering wheel, keyless start, inductive smartphone charging, and front and rear Park Distance Control. The Crafter will be available in three lengths—5,9 m, 6,84 m and 7,39 m—and with three roof height options, ranging from 2,35 m to 2,79 m.

Buyers will also have a choice of front- or rear-wheel drive, six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. Maximum cargo volume reaches 17,5 cu/m, with a gross vehicle weight of up to 5 tonnes for the largest variants.

The new Crafter will offer a range of 2,0-litre TDI engines, with outputs of 103 kW, 120 kW, and 130 kW. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be standard on the top-spec 50-series models.

Both the new Transporter and Crafter reflect Volkswagen’s commitment to providing flexible, high-performance commercial vehicles. With upgraded engines, increased load capacities, and a focus on driver comfort and safety, these new models are set to meet the demands of a wide range of industries.
