New look and specifications for Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento has been updated with some progressive design changes, enhanced efficiency and an adaptable interior crafted for the everyday demands for premium family transport by offering practical seven-seat versatility, including individually folding third-row seats.

A significant exterior refresh grants the new Sorento a distinct and assertive stance. The sculpted bonnet, designed with increased volume, reinforces its substantial SUV character. As the latest expression of Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy, specifically the ‘Bold for Nature’ pillar, the vehicle explores the interplay between natural inspiration and contemporary design.

Unique vertical headlamps featuring star map Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and a new radiator grille with a 3D mesh pattern project a progressive, high-tech aesthetic. Sequential front turn signals further enhance this modern look.

Robustness is conveyed by the redesigned front lower bumper, incorporating a wide skid plate, updated fog lamps, and a vertical air intake. Flanking the vehicle, new fender designs enhance the three-dimensional profile, complemented by standard 20-inch alloy wheels across the range.

At the rear, refreshed diagonal LED taillights connect via vertical star map graphics, creating visual cohesion. A slim LED high-mounted stop lamp and an updated bumper with exhaust trim contribute to a sophisticated yet rugged impression, solidified by the wide rear skid plate.

Inside, ambient mood lighting extends horizontally across the dashboard, visible along its surface, on the gear knob and front door trims while a curved display houses the infotainment and driver instrumentation. There is a redesigned shift-by-wire gear selector, black headliner, metal pedals and available panoramic sunroof.

Powering the fourth-generation Sorento is a proven 2,2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. Generating 148 kW at 3 800 r/min and a substantial 440 Nm of torque available between 1 750 and 2 750 r/min, it pairs with Kia’s eight-speed wet double-clutch transmission (8DCT).

The Sorento features dual 12,3-inch panoramic displays: a central infotainment touchscreen with navigation and a driver instrument cluster. Crucial driving data is projected onto an available 10-inch head-up display, minimising distraction. The digital rear-view mirror, functions as a standard electrochromic mirror or switching to a camera feed for an unobstructed rear view when needed. Practical touches include a wireless phone charger and six USB-C ports (two per seating row), while the top-tier SXL model boasts a premium Bose sound system.

The Sorento features significantly upgraded Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), aligned with model specifications. Key enhancements include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist now covering Junction Turning and Crossing scenarios, plus Evasive Steering Assist and improved lane change safety functions (oncoming and side).

Passenger protection is paramount, with up to seven crash bags deployed strategically. This includes dual front, front seat-mounted side and curtain bags with rollover sensors. Notably, a new second-row rear thorax bag enhances protection for rear passengers, and a front centre bag is designed to prevent front occupant head contact during certain collisions, providing an additional layer of safety.
