Omoda’s refreshed C5 X Series, unveiled this week, has striking design upgrades, heightened practicality and a sharper driving dynamic — all while offering substantial cost savings over its predecessors. The updated lineup introduces the Lux X and Elegance X trims, replacing the outgoing Lux and Elegance models, with prices slashed by up to R52 000.

Positioned as a mid-range facelift rather than a full-model overhaul, the new Lux X starts at R425 900, while the Elegance X now costs R465 900, saving buyers R42 000. The budget-friendly 1.5 Street (R329 000) and 1.5T Style (R364 900) remain unchanged, catering to entry-level buyers.

Omoda has reimagined the C5 X’s front fascia, moving away from the divisive borderless grille of its predecessor. The updated model sports a black diamond matrix grille inspired by the brand’s premium C9 SUV, flanked by restyled LED headlights and a sculpted lower bumper. Completing the exterior refresh are 18-inch gloss-black alloy wheels, lending a more assertive road presence.

Beneath the bonnet, the proven 1,5-litre turbo-charged petrol engine (115kW/230Nm) remains, now paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) replacing the older CVT. Omoda claims the shift trumps 0-100km/h acceleration by 0.9 seconds and improves fuel efficiency to 6.9L/100km (down from 7.4L). Engineers have also swapped the torsion beam rear suspension for a multi-link system, promising refined handling without compromising ride comfort.

The cabin sees a 64-litre boost in boot capacity (now 442 litres), while soft-touch materials and a upgraded 50-watt wireless charger — replacing the 15-watt unit — elevate the interior. Both X variants come standard with a panoramic sunroof, power-operated tailgate, leather-trimmed seats and a 10,25-inch digital driver’s display. Wireless smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remains a key selling point.

Buyers receive a 5-year/70 000 km service plan, a 5-year/150 000 km general warranty and a 10-year/1-million kilometre engine warranty for initial owners.
