The seventh-generation Subaru Outback is already picking up pace in international markets before its local arrival later in 2026. For the first time, the Outback moves away from its wagon roots into a more defined SUV shape. Even with that shift, it keeps the versatility that has been part of its identity for 30 years, while introducing updates aimed at what buyers are looking for today.

Globally, the new Outback comes with two four-cylinder Boxer engines: a 2,5-litre naturally aspirated unit producing 134 kW and 241 Nm of torque, and a 2,4-litre turbo-charged version pushing out 194 kW and 376 Nm. Both use Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT.

Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive remains standard, offering steady handling on different surfaces and in changing weather. Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance systems also feature, aiming to balance everyday driving ease with safety, whether in town or on rougher roads.

“The ongoing recognition the new Outback is getting overseas shows the car’s strength and how well it suits current buyers,” says Nteo Nkoli, National Marketing Manager for Subaru Southern Africa. “As we get ready to launch the Outback here in 2026, these awards give us added confidence in what it offers in terms of ability, safety, and day-to-day usefulness.”
