Toyota South Africa has rolled out the Fortuner GR-S, a rugged yet sleek addition to its Gazoo Racing (GR) family, now available nationwide. The model combines off-road prowess with urban flair, slotting into Toyota’s performance-oriented GR-S tier alongside the Hilux, Land Cruiser, and Corolla Cross GR-S variants.
The GR range spans four tiers: entry-level GR Parts for customisation, GR-S (Sport) models with styling and handling tweaks, full-performance GR-badged cars like the GR Yaris, and the track-focused GRMN series. The Fortuner GR-S sits in the GR-S category, targeting drivers seeking a balance of everyday usability and sporty upgrades.

Visually, the Fortuner GR-S stands out with a redesigned front bumper, black spoiler, and fog lamp bezels, paired with 18-inch alloy wheels and a streamlined rear diffuser. Colour options are limited to Attitude Black and Platinum Pearl White, emphasising its exclusive appeal.
Inside, the cabin features a black-and-red theme with suede-and-leather sports seats, red stitching, and GR-branded details like a steering wheel with a red centre marker. Aluminium pedals and a GR-start button add to the motorsport-inspired vibe.
A 2,8-litre GD-6 diesel engine powers the GR-S, generating 165kW and 550Nm of torque — making it the most potent Fortuner yet. The 6-speed automatic gearbox and 4x4 drivetrain are bolstered by monotube shock absorbers, aimed at improving handling on both rough terrain and tarmac.

Priced at R999,000, the Fortuner GR-S includes a 3-year/100,000km warranty and a 9-service/90,000km maintenance plan. Toyota hopes the GR-S badge—already popular on the Hilux—will draw enthusiasts eager to blend adventure-ready specs with street-smart style.
With this launch, Toyota reinforces the Fortuner’s status as a versatile workhorse, now dressed in Gazoo Racing’s sportier garb. Whether navigating city traffic or mountain passes, the GR-S promises to turn heads while staying true to its tough-as-nails roots.
