Volvo Car South Africa has introduced the EX30 Cross Country, a new addition to its fully electric lineup designed to appeal to adventure-seeking drivers. This compact SUV aims to merge sustainability with capability, reflecting a lifestyle where exploration is commonplace.
Available solely in the high-specification Ultra trim, the EX30 Cross Country utilises Volvo's Twin Motor Performance electric drivetrain. This system provides 315 kW of power and 543 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3,7 seconds. The vehicle's top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h.

Power is delivered through a single-speed transmission and all-wheel drive, enhancing grip and control on varied surfaces, from icy roads to local gravel routes like the Sani Pass. It shares the SEA2 platform with the standard EX30, maintaining agile handling and ride comfort.
Energy comes from a 69 kWh battery pack, offering an estimated driving range of up to 427 km according to the WLTP cycle. Energy consumption is rated at 18,7 kWh per 100 km. Using a compatible fast charger, the battery can be replenished from 10% to 80% capacity in approximately 26 minutes.

Visually, the Cross Country distinguishes itself with a more robust stance. Key design elements include a raised ride height resulting in 190 mm of ground clearance (13 mm higher than the standard model), exclusive 19-inch five-spoke alloy wheels in Matte Graphite, Matte Black aero inserts, and darker finishes for the front shield and boot lid. The front fascia features artwork inspired by Sweden’s Kebnekaise mountain range. Pronounced skid plates and wider wheel arch extensions reinforce its off-road character. Five exterior colours are offered: Sand Dune, Cloud Blue, Crystal White, Onyx Black, and Vapour Grey.

Inside, the minimalist Ultra-spec cabin includes a heated steering wheel and front seats, a fixed panoramic sunroof, two-zone climate control, and power-adjustable front seats. A nine-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and a 12,3-inch central touchscreen provide infotainment, supporting Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in Google services. Cargo space is 400 litres behind the second row, expandable via a 60:40 split-fold design. A front storage compartment offers additional space, and accessories like mudflaps and roof racks will be available. Interior finishes include Pine (featuring a wool blend textile with recycled materials) and Indigo, both utilising recycled and renewable components.

Safety features, standard on the Ultra trim, encompass Adaptive Cruise Control, Pilot Assist with Steering Support, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Front and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert with Autobrake, Evasive Manoeuvre Assist, Lane Keeping Aid with Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), a 360-Degree Park Assist Camera, Hill Descent Control, Intersection Autobrake, and Intelligent Speed Assist. Passive safety includes multiple airbags and ISOFIX attachments.
The Volvo EX30 Cross Country arrives at South African dealerships this month priced at R1 165 000. The purchase includes a three-year/60 000 km maintenance plan, a five-year/100 000 km warranty, an eight-year battery warranty, and five years of unlimited roadside assistance. Owners also receive two years of complimentary public charging, a GridCars wallbox with installation, and 10 GB of Vodacom data monthly for three years.
