Volvo Car South Africa (VCSA) is putting its foot down on the accelerator of its local electric strategy. Fresh off the introduction of the large all-electric EX90, the Swedish automaker has announced a significant expansion of its electrified line-up, confirming four new models will hit local showrooms within the coming months. This move, spearheaded by newly appointed Managing Director Grant Locke, signals Volvo's firm commitment to the South African market as a vital part of its global electric vision.

"Our focus is clear: we are committed to offering South African motorists more choice as they make the transition to electric driving," says Locke. "Bringing in these new vehicles, alongside our ongoing investment in local operations and services, really shows we're here to stay and grow."

Volvo EX30 Cross Country soon for launch in SA

Don't be caught in the cold - check out these stunning pre-owned Volvo models

The electrified rollout kicks off later this year in the third quarter with the arrival of the Volvo EX30 Cross Country. Building directly on the popular EX30 electric SUV, the Cross Country variant adds a distinctly tougher character. Expect increased ground clearance, enhanced capability for trickier terrain, and unique styling cues that give it a more rugged look.

Staying true to the Cross Country heritage – first seen on models like the XC70 – the EX30 CC blends Volvo's core values of comfort, practicality, and safety with a spirit ready for adventure. Offering a WLTP-estimated range of 427 km, VCSA suggests it provides the freedom to explore beyond city limits without sacrificing sustainability, ideal for weekend getaways or off-the-beaten-path journeys.

Come spring, Volvo dealers will showcase significantly refreshed versions of two established favourites: the Volvo XC60 and XC90. Both SUVs sport redesigned front and rear styling, featuring new grilles, updated alloy wheels, and subtle refinements. Inside marks a major tech leap. Drivers will find Volvo's latest 11.2-inch free-standing touchscreen, larger than before with 21% sharper pixel density, running the brand's newest user interface debuted in the EX30 and EX90. This system promises faster responses. The updated cabins also introduce new materials, colour options, and comfort features. Crucially for the local market, both refreshed models will offer buyers a choice between mild-hybrid (MHEV) and plug-in hybrid (Recharge) powertrains.

Looking further ahead to early 2026, Volvo will introduce the Volvo ES90, a key step in its ongoing electric journey. Positioned as a smart sedan blending classic elegance with fastback versatility and SUV-like spaciousness, the ES90 aims to redefine electric mobility. It rides on the advanced SPA2 platform (shared with the EX90) and boasts next-generation core computing power. A standout feature is its impressive WLTP-estimated driving range of approximately 700 km. Volvo also highlights its advanced safety systems, incorporating LiDAR and the latest driver understanding tech. Inside, the ES90 promises a premium, spacious environment using quality materials, cutting-edge Google-powered infotainment, and an immersive Bowers & Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos. Additional luxuries like a panoramic roof and an advanced air purification system aim to create a sanctuary on the move.

This four-model offensive significantly bolsters Volvo's electrified presence in South Africa, offering consumers a broader spectrum of choices as the local EV landscape continues to develop.
