It was a serengeti of slow steel at Nampo in Bothaville this week as a veld flotilla of 1 545 Toyota Hiluxes assembled at the annual grain harvest event to set a new world record – and for those owners to get a chance to see the upcoming new Hilux.
A whopping 1 545 Hilux vehicles rolled into one spot—a proper sight to behold—smashing the previous record of 1 440 and officially reclaiming the title for the biggest gathering of Hiluxes ever. Toyota had set the bar before at Atlantis Dunes in Cape Town, but now the job is done, and how.

It might not be a world record but we have more than a thousand Hiluxes for you to view
The vibe? Electric. Families, farmers, and fanatics came from all over South Africa to be part of something special. And Toyota didn’t disappoint. Leon Theron, the big boss of Sales and Marketing at Toyota South Africa Motors, was buzzing:
“What a jol. We wanted to make history, and our Hilux family showed up like champs. This wasn’t just about a record—it was about celebrating a legend and the incredible people who drive it. We’re truly grateful.”
The mega turnout was part of Toyota’s first-ever dynamic Hilux Showcase at Nampo, which had crowds flocking from morning to sunset. And the stories on the ground were just as solid as the vehicles themselves. One of the oldest Hiluxes on display dated all the way back to the early 1970s. Another had clocked over a million kilometres—proof that these beasts really do last, generation after generation.
The day had a real kuier-feel to it: live music, spot prizes, exclusive goodies, and a lekker family atmosphere. And the cherry on top? One lucky oke, Hendrik Coetzee, walked away with a brand new, next-generation Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab, plus free insurance and accessories. Not too shabby, hey? He’s now one of the first in the country to own the new model.

But the team wasn’t done yet. Toyota went for four more Guinness World Records on the day. The results are still being checked, so watch this space.
“Our customers are our community,” Theron added. “This proved that the Hilux isn’t just a vehicle. It’s a proudly South African legacy—built into families, farms, and unforgettable moments. To everyone who pitched up: dankie. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
