The build-up to the formal launch of iCAUR models locally continues and more details have emerged on the positioning of the V27 along with news the V23 has been given a 5-star rating by Asean NCAP.
The iCAUR V27 positions itself as a mid-to-large electrified SUV designed for both family utility and adventure travel. Central to its design philosophy is a focus on interior space and driver visibility, aiming to address the practical demands of local motorists.
The cabin is configured around a 69,9% space utilisation ratio, yielding over 50 individual storage compartments. It provides 1,3 metres of headroom and, with the second-row seats folded, expands to offer 1 818 litres of cargo volume. This layout is supplemented by a hidden underfloor compartment and a dual-layer glovebox. When folded flat, the rear seats create a load area close to two metres in length.

In a related development, the upcoming iCAUR V23 electric SUV has secured a five-star safety assessment from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program. The rating follows a series of crash tests and evaluations of its active safety systems.
In the 40% frontal offset deformable barrier test, conducted at 64 km/h, the vehicle’s high-voltage system shut down promptly post-impact, with no electrolyte leakage reported. The body structure, incorporating over 70% high-strength steel, remained intact. The model scored 31,77 out of 32 points (99%) in adult occupant protection.
The V23 achieved full marks in the 50 km/h side impact test. Its design employs a high sill section with integrated energy-absorbing structures to manage crash forces and protect the underfloor battery pack. Six airbags are fitted as standard across the range.
In safety assist categories, the vehicle scored 18 points. Its automatic emergency braking system, supported by a 1V3R camera and three millimetre-wave radar setup, received full marks in both city and inter-urban evaluations. The system demonstrated effective collision avoidance in tests involving vehicles and motorcycles. A Blind Spot Detection system uses rear corner radars to provide visual and audible lane-change warnings.
“The diverse nature of South African roads demands a vehicle with proven safety credentials,” says Gahagan. “The V23’s robust architecture and advanced protective systems are developed to provide motorists with assured confidence ahead of its local introduction.”
