Amid a number of pressures on a global scale Nissan, although seemingly doing an ostrich thing and hiding its head in the sand, is actively producing new vehicles and, in a significant move for the Chinese market, it used the recent Guangzhou Motor Show to announce the Teana sedan will now come standard with Huawei's latest in-car technology across all models.
The vehicle, produced by Nissan's joint venture with Chinese automaker Dongfeng Nissan, will carry a price tag ranging from R338 537 to R406 541.

The Teana's design presents a long and streamlined profile. A distinctive 'star ring’ LED light strip runs from the centre of the grille out towards the headlights on each side. These twin-projector LED headlights are claimed to illuminate the road ahead for nearly 230 metres. Buyers can choose two exclusive colours, Sandstone Gray and Phantom Purple, which aim to blend a sense of luxury with a dynamic appearance. Inside, the cabin is largely finished with soft-touch materials, and features ambient lighting that can be set to a wide variety of colours. A large touchscreen and voice control system are intended to create an environment similar to a smart home.
Under the bonnet, the car is fitted with Nissan's 2,0-litre VC-Turbo engine, a power unit with a variable compression ratio. It produces 179 kW and 371 Nm of torque. The vehicle also includes a Level 2 driver-assistance system to aid with safety and comfort on the road.
Passenger comfort has been a focus, with spacious seating for all occupants. The front seats are equipped with spinal support, ventilation, memory and massage functions, and an adjustable footrest is also provided.

The key update for the new model is the integration of Huawei's HarmonySpace 5.0 as standard equipment, a first for a vehicle with a traditional combustion engine. The system, which operates much like a smartphone, features a 15,6-inch display, a voice assistant capable of precise recognition, and can receive over-the-air software updates.
For audio, the Teana comes with a standard 15-speaker sound system developed with Huawei Sound, with a 17-speaker setup available on the top model. To complement this, double-layer soundproof glass is fitted on all doors, designed to create a quiet cabin atmosphere conducive to an immersive listening experience, even at highway speeds.
Whether this vehicle will become a global export consideration is not yet known.
