Mazda Southern Africa has quietly refreshed its Mazda2 line-up for 2026, and the big story here is not so much what’s new, but what you now get for less. The B-light hatchback has been given a subtle styling update and a technology boost, yet the real shift is in how the entry-level version now punches well above its weight.
Take the Active edition. This used to be the bare-bones starter pack, but now it comes with kit that was once reserved for pricier versions. Walk into any Mazda dealership and the base model rolls out with a 7-inch MZD Connect display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built right in.

That is a proper convenience bump for someone watching their budget. The designers also threw in some visual touches to help it stand out: 15-inch two-tone steel wheels, yellow accents on the front and rear grilles, and a coloured interior panel. It is a small thing, but it gives the car a bit of personality without shouting.
Under the bonnet, nothing has changed, and that is fine. The familiar 1,5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine does its job, putting out 85 kW at 6 000 r/min and 148 Nm of torque at 4 000 r/min. Buyers can pick between a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, depending on the derivative.
The range is simple: the Active MT kicks things off, then the Dynamic AT adds silver metallic 15-inch alloys, side and curtain crash bags, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and that shark fin antenna.
At the top sits the Individual AT, which throws in smart keyless entry, automatic climate control, a reverse camera with rear parking sensors, paddle shifters, auto-folding mirrors, wireless charging, a head-up display, 16-inch machined alloys and a black and red interior.

What carries across every model is a solid list of standard safety and convenience features. Anti-lock braking with EBD and EBA, ISOFIX child-seat anchors, dual front crash bags, LED headlamps, push start ignition, power windows front and back, adjustable steering and electronic stability control are all there.
The ownership deal remains the same. Every Mazda2 comes with a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, a 3-year service plan, and five years of roadside assistance. No surprises, just the kind of backing that makes the value proposition stick.
