The 2017 BMW M240i sits near the top of the line for the 2-Series Coupé, offering a blend of sporty performance, compact dimensions and everyday usability. It’s not a bare-bones track tool — but rather a “sweet-spot” performance coupé that delivers strong engine character and engaging drive while remaining practical enough for daily use. Compared with the entry-level 2-Series, it adds noticeably more punch and refinement.
Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six (BMW’s B58 generation), producing a healthy 335 hp (≈ 250 kW) and 369 lb-ft (≈ 500 Nm) of torque.
With the eight-speed automatic transmission (or optional 6-speed manual on rear-wheel-drive versions), the M240i sprints from 0–100 km/h (0–60 mph) in around 4.3–4.5 seconds.
The power delivery is smooth and strong even from low revs, with a potent mid-range — making it surprisingly flexible and easy to drive even for everyday conditions.
Handling remains sharp and composed thanks to its compact footprint, well-balanced chassis and rear-wheel-drive layout (or xDrive where specified). Steering feedback and body control give the M240i an engaging, driver-oriented feel without being overly harsh.
The 2017 BMW M240i is ideal for someone who wants the blend of sporty performance, driver engagement and everyday usability — without stepping up to a full-blown “M-car” in terms of cost, running complexity or compromise.
