Audi South Africa has quietly expanded its A1 Sportback range with the introduction of an S line derivative, priced from R549,000. The new model fits between the existing Advanced and Black Edition trims, giving buyers another option in the compact hatchback segment without pushing too far up the price ladder.

The A1 has remained one of Audi’s stronger sellers locally, and the brand says the S line trim is meant to keep that momentum going as the current model moves toward the end of its lifecycle.

According to Markus Schuster, Head of Audi South Africa, the decision to introduce the S line comes down to customer demand. “The Audi A1 remains one of our top-selling models in the local market, and maintaining that momentum is a key focus for us,” Schuster said. “With the S line derivative, we are responding to this demand by strengthening the value proposition within the range, while continuing to offer the S line design and features our customers value.”

The refreshed three-tier range now looks like this:

  • Advanced – R530,900
Entry-level option with Audi’s virtual cockpit, smartphone interface, basic LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels and cloth seats.

  • S line – R549,000
Mid-range addition bringing sport seats in cloth, full LED headlights with rear lights Plus, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a unique 17-inch wheel design.

  • Black Edition – R593,390
Top of the range, adding the black styling package plus, park assist and extra convenience features.

Audi says the updated A1 range is designed to offer a clearer progression across trims while keeping things accessible for buyers looking to enter the brand.

The full A1 Sportback line-up is now available through Audi dealers nationwide, with the usual five-year/100,000km Audi Freeway plan included across all models.
