Mitsubishi Motors South Africa is marking 25 years of the Outlander with something special: the Outlander Edition 25. This limited edition—only 10 units will be available—celebrates the SUV’s journey from its debut as the Airtrek back in 2001.

When the original Outlander hit the scene, SUVs were just starting to catch on. It stood out with its modern style, all-wheel drive and room for seven people—a real game-changer at the time.

Lerato Nonyane, General Manager for Product and Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa, says: “Edition 25 shows how far this global icon has come. It is a nod to our heritage, but with premium comfort and innovative tech.”

At R819 995, the Edition 25 is not about nostalgia. Built for today, the features are aimed at adventurers who want both performance and modern convenience.

“The Outlander has always been a hit with South Africans who love to explore,” added Nonyane. “The Edition 25 is our way of celebrating that spirit and making something unique for the next generation.”

The Edition 25 stands out with exclusive exterior touches. Mitsubishi drew from the Outlander’s design roots but added modern flair, sticking with their I-Fu-Do-Do philosophy—which is all about being authentic and bold.

Up front, the Dynamic Shield grille gets fresh detailing, while the lower skid guard now has a chunkier, three-dimensional look. At the back, the taillights come with smoked lenses to highlight the T-shaped signature, and the rear skid plate has been reshaped for extra attitude.

Black trim on the lower bumpers, B and C pillars adds a sleek touch. The power sliding panoramic sunroof brings in loads of light, and the 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are unique to this edition.

Inside, it is all about comfort and tech. The Edition 25 comes with LED lighting throughout. Map, room and personal lights turn on and off with a gentle touch—thanks to capacitive switches that let the light fade in and out.

You get leather seats, and the driver’s seat does it all: eight-way power adjustment, lumbar support, memory settings, and three levels of ventilation. The infotainment setup features a big 12,3-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Just say ‘Hello Mitsubishi’ and the system listens. The driver gets a second 12,3-inch screen for all the driving info. Sound comes from a Yamaha Premium eight-speaker system.

Practical touches make a difference, too. The centre console is redesigned with a new cup holder position and a bigger storage box—now 4,2 litres. The gear selector has a new shape, USB ports are now Type-C for quicker charging and the wireless phone charger has been moved for easier access.

Other highlights? A Multi Around Monitor camera system, power tailgate with hands-free function, door mirrors with memory and reverse tilt and a frameless rearview mirror that doubles as the rear camera display. Rear-seat passengers get pull-up sunshades on the side windows.

Under the hood, you will find a 2,5-litre four-cylinder engine with direct injection, putting out 135 kW at 6 000 r/min and 245 Nm of torque at 3 600 r/min. It is paired with an eight-step CVT and Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. Fuel consumption comes in at 8,1 l/100km.

Ground clearance is 210 mm, so you do not have to worry about rough roads. The S-AWC balances power to all four wheels, and drivers can pick from six drive modes: Normal, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow and Mud. Each mode tweaks the steering, powertrain, all-wheel drive, and brakes to match the road or trail.
